From a NASCAR Fan’s View
Well… it’s that time again. Time to watch what some will do to run a race for a million dollars. Yeah, that’s right. One race for one million dollars and it is taking place at the little over half mile track of North Wilkesboro Speedway. Of course, I don’t need to tell you that but, just in case you’re new to NASCAR Cup, I said it for you.
There isn’t a lot to talk about before this race tonight, at least from this fan’s view. Mostly this race is about the drive for the million dollars. There are some things of interest that will go on tonight. Because this race is set up differently than any other regular race, tonight’s race might be very interesting for several reasons.
It was good to see Brad Keselowski running well enough to start on the pole and it could bode well for him as the night progresses and if anyone could use a million-dollar night, from this fan’s view, it is Brad.
I find it interesting that Kyle Larson and Denny Hamlin are starting at the rear of the pack. Of course, they are rivals at times almost every weekend but tonight they will be fighting between them both and most of the pack to move toward the front. In this fan’s opinion, the cards are stacked against them, but they are both quite capable of making running at the front at the right time happen.
While we’re talking about Kyle Larson, he has had a busy week and weekend so far and tonight will be a lot of work to get to the front. Am I saying he won’t make it? No, of course not. If past experience speaks about his capabilities of being able to do the seeming impossible, he is definitely one that can do it. Will he be able to is the question that will only be answered at the end of the race.
With Christopher bell starting on the front row beside Brad Keselowski, things could be very interesting to start with and he is in a good position to possibly go the distance and even take the win of the $1,000,000. Will that happen? Well, that’s a very good question and there are at least 19 to 20 more drivers that will have something to say about that. After all, Christopher Bell is a talented short track racer along with several others in the field and, because he’s starting out front, it could be an ominous sign for the rest of the field. Do I think that’s the way that things are going to pan out tonight? Possibly. In actuality, there are way too many things that can happen to stand in his way and in the way of many others.
As you can tell, this fan has no idea how the race tonight is going to go. There is the open they will be run first and then the All-Star race will run starting at 8:00 PM. With $1,000,000 to win on the line, just about anything is possible I suppose. One important thing to remember is this is short track racing and short track racing has the tendency to have a lot of pushing and shoving and bumping people out of the way to pass. It may not happen early in the race although the possibility is always there, but later on it could be happening more often than not.
So, the race tonight is going to be 50 laps longer than it was last year and that means 50 laps of more planning. It’s gonna be about tires, and it’s gonna be about being able to pass and not make any mistakes. Well, they might be able to make mistakes but they’ll either have to make them early or they can’t be very big ones.
From my view the race tonight at North Wilkesboro Speedway just might prove to be one of the more interesting All-Star races in recent times. Will it make any difference in anything but somebody going away $1,000,000 richer? No, not really. The biggest difference will be the dollar signs…
